Roundworms can help in Non-invasive Cancer Detection
In medicine world, a correct and fast diagnosis of the
disease is half battle won. Combine the detection with low cost, and you can
pass the benefit to masses.
In tune with the above idea a novel cancer detection methodology
is being developed by Japanese multinational Hitachi and Kyushu University.
They have used Ringworms as the identifiers of cancer in human body. The
concept is simple as they have found ringworms are attracted to the urine of a
cancer person.
The study was conducted on about 300 people and gave
accurate results in over 90 percent of the cases. Each test would take only an
hour and would cost less than an USD.
However, they said the gadget would not be able to detect
different types of cancer, and a positive detection would require additional
conventional tests. Test kits are expected to be launched by 2018.
Nature has its own cures.
